How we test & grade every unit
The market hides behind vague "refurbished." We publish the ladder, the test pipeline, and the warranty — and mirror the grade in structured data on every listing. Specs and test results before adjectives.
Every unit passes a five-to-seven step pipeline — intake, cosmetic grade, function & burn-in, a category-specific deep test, NIST SP 800-88 data sanitization, and grade labeling. It is then sold under one of five published grades — New / Factory-Sealed, Manufacturer Recertified, Grade A Refurbished, Tested Pull, or House-Brand / Compatible — each with a defined warranty. All grades ship with seller-paid RMA freight and zero restocking fee.
Refurbished enterprise hardware runs 60–90% below new. The reason it is safe to buy at that price is process: a documented test path, an honest cosmetic grade, a verifiable data wipe, and a warranty we own rather than one we point at the OEM for. This page is that process, in full.
Five grades — what each one means
The same grade names appear on every product page and in each listing's structured data (itemCondition). No mystery tiers.

Intake to label — every unit, every time
- Intake & identification. Part number and serial captured, provenance recorded, and the serial checked against theft/blacklist databases. Nothing enters the queue anonymously.
- Visual / cosmetic grade. Chassis, ports, connectors, fans and faceplate inspected under bench light; a cosmetic grade (A / pull) is assigned and photographed.
- Function & burn-in. The unit is powered and soaked under load so infant-mortality failures surface here, on our bench, not in your rack.
- Category-specific deep test. Storage, switching, servers, memory and components each get a distinct test — detailed in the table below.
- Data sanitization. Every storage-bearing device is wiped to NIST SP 800-88 Rev.1 and a Certificate of Data Erasure is generated.
- Grade assignment & label. The published grade and its warranty are written to the listing and to the page's structured data.
- Packaging & serialization. Anti-static packing, serial recorded against the order, so the RMA we own is traceable to the exact unit.

NIST SP 800-88 — with an erasure certificate
Every storage-bearing device — drives, servers carrying drives, and switches or routers holding config and NVRAM — is sanitized to NIST Special Publication 800-88 Rev.1, "Guidelines for Media Sanitization" before it is graded or listed. We apply the standard's Clear, Purge and Destroy methods according to the media type and its reuse path.
- Drives receive a verified Purge-level secure erase (ATA/NVMe secure-erase or crypto-erase where the media supports it), with a post-wipe read-back verification pass.
- Servers, switches and routers have all drives sanitized and their configuration, credentials and NVRAM cleared to factory-default.
- Failed media that cannot be verifiably purged is routed to physical Destroy and never resold.
A Certificate of Data Erasure is available per serial number on request. It records the sanitization method, the verification result, the technician, and the date — the audit trail your security and compliance teams need for chain-of-custody.
Why it matters: a used drive with a prior tenant's data is a breach waiting to happen. Documented, standards-based erasure is the difference between surplus hardware and a liability.

What does "Grade A Refurbished" mean at Networking Corner?
Grade A Refurbished means the unit was fully restored: cleaned, re-seated, defective parts replaced, burn-in tested, firmware set to a known-good baseline, and cosmetically graded A. It ships with our 365-day owned warranty, seller-paid RMA freight, and zero restocking fee.
Does a Manufacturer Recertified part carry the manufacturer's warranty?
No. A manufacturer recertification warranty does not transfer on resale. That is why every Manufacturer Recertified unit we sell carries our own 365-day Networking Corner owned warranty instead.
How do you wipe data from used drives and servers?
