How this works
OEM part-number cross-referencing, explained
Every drive, DIMM, controller and optic in an enterprise system ships under several different part numbers. The tool above collapses them into one answer: what fits, what it's equivalent to, and what's in stock.
A single physical component travels the supply chain under a stack of identifiers. A Seagate ST1200MM0098 1.2TB 10K SAS drive is the same spindle Dell sells as 400-AJPU, HPE ships with a SmartCarrier as 872479-B21, and Lenovo trays as its own ThinkSystem SKU. The raw drive is identical; the carrier, firmware and label change. If you search only the OEM's number, you miss the far cheaper — and functionally identical — cross-referenced part.
The four numbers that matter
- OEM system part number — the SKU printed on the server maker's carrier or box (e.g. Dell
400-AJPU, HPEP00924-B21). What your asset system records. - Component manufacturer number — the drive/DIMM maker's own MPN (Seagate
ST1200MM0098, MicronMTA36ASF4G72PZ-2G9). Often 40–70% cheaper for the same silicon. - Spare / assembly number — the service-parts SKU an OEM quotes for warranty replacement (e.g. an HPE
-091spare). - MSA / standard reference — for optics, the multi-source-agreement type (
10GBASE-SR,40GBASE-SR4) that any compliant transceiver implements, regardless of the coding a switch expects.
Where the compatibility caveats live
Cross-reference is not "any part fits any slot." The engineering rules the tool encodes:
- Memory is platform-locked. HPE
P00924-B21is Smart Memory for ProLiant Gen10 only — it will not validate in a Dell R740. Speed also negotiates: DDR4-2933 runs at 2933 on 2nd-gen Xeon Scalable and downclocks to 2666 on 1st-gen. - Controllers track the server generation. Dell's
0J6WK(PERC H730P) is the 13G (R730-era) Mini Mono card; the 14G R740/R640 use the H740P. Same family, different generation. - Drive carriers are proprietary. The spindle is standard 12Gb/s SAS, but Dell, HPE and Lenovo each use a different hot-swap tray — so a bare drive needs the matching caddy.
- Optics are coded. A 10GBASE-SR optic is MSA-standard optically, but Cisco, Arista and Juniper each expect a vendor code in the EEPROM. Our compatible optics are coded for the target platform — tell us the switch OS on the RFQ.
The short version
Search the number you have. The tool returns the in-stock SKU, its OEM equivalents, and the systems it fits — so you can drop a verified line into a BOM instead of chasing three vendors' part catalogs.
